Reflection
1. Impression and About Research and Project Subject
Research and Project (RnP) code subject ENG 4423 is something new for a student like me. This is the 1st time I was learnt in this course English Communication. RnP seems like Project and Presentation when I was in semester 1. My 1st impression for the 1st time in this subject is difficult because of it has different aspects of comprehensive report writing or thesis writing in English. But after Madam Umi was told about this subject, I think it is not so hard like I think before it. This subject makes some activity step by step.
First of all, in chapter 1 this is introduction to writing research report, so starts with a definition of research report writing, followed by a brief description of the step involved in conducting a research, from determining the issues of problem to writing the report, how to conduct a research and others. It also covers the basic structure of a report such as introduction, findings and discussion, conclusion and recommendation. In chapter 2 ‘Research Proposal’ begins with definition of a research proposal. From this definition, I can know what research proposal all about. It is a plan of action that describes in detail how you plan to carry out a research and request permission to proceed with the plan. From this chapter, I can able to demonstrate an understanding of a research proposal and its importance also to prepare an outline of a research proposal and present it. The chapter continues with a discussion of the characteristic and organization of a proposal. The chapter ends with a language input on exercise and easy for me to practice it seem saying says ‘Practice makes Perfect’.
In chapter 3, ‘Data Collection’, this chapter presents guidelines on how to gather data for the research. This chapter exposes me to the skills of collecting data for my research writing assignment. As a result, I will be able to distinguish the two categories of data: primary and secondary and also apply the techniques for gathering primary and secondary data. Besides, this chapter also include the discussion of collecting primary data, namely through questionnaire, interviews, observation and experiments. Data processing and data presentation in Chapter 4 covers the procedures of analyzing data. While in chapter 5 and 6 it is focus on writing the research report. Chapter 6 focuses on writing the main section of the report. From this topic, I will able to create a report and write my report in stage according to the cliff section. The last chapter in this RnP subject is oral presentation which is making oral presentation of the research findings. It is from what I have done by before according to my interview and survey on questionnaires.
2. Experience
From this subject, I have learn more experience that can enhance my knowledge and give an experience that maybe I can practice it in the future when I already work in journalist or in a broadcasting area. It is because, in this particular subject, my lecturer Madam Umi and Madam Zalinda teach me how to do a research writing base on one issue that I already choose it for my report assignment. From this, I will able to do it step by step. Starting from do a research proposal which is to identify topic of research, preparing and presenting proposal for research, discussing and designing research instruments, collecting data, drafting report, preparing for presentation, presenting the report, revising the the final report and lastly binding final report. This work I do it week by week follow the schedule. From this, I can do it in effective way. To collect data, I was done an interview and also do some survey to public. It is a new experience for me because I was interview and distribute questionnaire to university students which I never met them before. Even I was shy during the interview and distribute questionnaire with them but I willing to do it as my assignment project and it give me new experience. I feel like I am a reporter and journalist.
After I have done all this, I proceed to data processing, data presentation and also do a report. To make a data processing and data presentation, it is very hardly to me because I must do it step by step. Started from organize, categorize/code and record the qualitative and quantitative data, analyzed collected data and also present data using illustration such as table, graph and chats. Even this work is harder to me, but I can do it properly because this subject is very interesting and I can in front of public without shy anymore, I can decrease my negative feeling and make me to be more confident.
To sum up, this subject RnP teach me a new thing that I will not forget it in my life.
3. How do I connect Research and Project in my life?
This subject has their advantages because it can make me to connect in my life. For examples, I want to be a journalist one day after I graduate in degree. After diploma in MPCIM, I want to further study at UITM in Bachelor of Mass Communication (Hons) (Journalism). If I want to be a journalist, I already have some experience like survey, interview public audience and this is one of the jobs that I must do it in journalism. Besides, I also have some knowledge about academic writing report which is from this subject. If I want further study in journalism, it will provide me a variety of skills and knowledge. It focuses on aspects of journalism such as new gathering and writing, media laws and ethnics, interpretative reporting and computer technology skills. I already have not as much knowledge about reporting but, this course has taught me about it. So, I think I do not have a problem to follow it if I study in journalism. In general, this course can teach me to speak in proper language to everyone especially to public audience.
4. The most chapter in RnP text book that I like.
From chapter 7, the most I like is in chapter 3, ‘Data Collection’ because; from this I can do a survey and also an interview. This is what I want, because I can get more and new experience about this which is same like journalist and also reporter. Data collection is a process of collecting data from different sources. There are primary and secondary data which is primary is information and questionnaire, interviews, observation, test and experiments, while secondary data is from other research and experience. From this secondary data, I can enhance my knowledge about some topic and know about other people research and proposal. I also can throw out my negative feeling such as shy when in front of people who is when I do my interview, tape it and also distribute questionnaire to them. Even it has many challenges to do it, but I enjoy with my job do this assignment because it is interesting and I like to do it. I try to do my best in interview because I want to be a journalist or reperter one day. So I need star from now to practice it in my life.

Reflection

In general, this course can teach me to speak in proper language to everyone especially to public audience.
